Friday, November 19, 2010 - Gala Preview Party
Please join us on Friday night for our Gala Preview Party. This is your opportunity to browse and shop the booths before the marketplace opens Saturday morning. We will feature a delicious spread of heavy hors d'oeuvres and fully catered reception. A live band will be performing and the popular Seagrove Collaborative Pieces auction will take place. Artists from different potteries will work together to make one of a kind pieces, all created here in Seagrove! The Gala begins at 6pm, inside the exhibit hall at the Luck's Bean Cannery in Seagrove. Sally Larson, Fireshadow Pottery and Bobbie Thomas, Thomas Pottery (click to enlarge)
Vase made by Sally and decorated with leaves and vines by Bobbie. Sally glazed their pot in Fireshawdow's Summer Green in an electric kiln. The light turquoise celadon glaze was a perfect choice by Sally to enhance the band of leaves appliqued by Bobbie. Both Sally and Bobbie are inspired by the details in nature and was a perfect match for a collabortive piece. 15" high.

Cream and sugar set made by Mark, Tray made by Meredith. We wanted to make something different from our usual pots and glazes we used a cone 6 clay body which was then sprayed with white slip - the design was carved by meredith and then inlayed with blue-green slips. The pots were glazed and fired in an electric kiln.

Samantha Henneke and Bruce Gholson of Bulldog Pottery
Samantha threw the porcelain vase, applied red clay slip, and carved the pattern on the neck of the vase.  Bruce drew the fossil fish design on the bottom with liquid porcelain clay, and glazed the vase with molybdenum crystalline glazes. 20".

Turtle at the Lake Hole
This zealous turtle was created by Blaine Avery and decorated by Carol Gentithes.  Blaine admires the introspective, thoughtful nature of the turtle who is forever the independent, intrepid nomad carrying his home on his back through the journeys of life.  Carol narrates one of the turtle's  journeys as he wanders into  the waters of a lake where he discovers traces of human interference from the land above.  The turtle is hand built from stoneware and  salt glazed.  The decorations are silkscreen emulsions that are fired onto the surface in a separate firing.Dimensions: 11H x 11W x 18L
